FARTS in the Park
FARTS in the Park (Free ART Sessions in the Park)
When it comes to programs that hit all the right marks the creators of this program fit the bill in spades! They have selflessly donated their ideas, time and resourses to offering a popular all inclusive art program for children and families that is environmentally responsible.
FARTS in the Park is a unique solely art-based program that runs on a regular bi-weekly schedule for 10 months of the year, is targeted towards children aged 4-8 (but can also accommodate kids aged 3-11), and is entirely free to participate in. The programs are designed to be fun, open up dialogue about mindfulness practices and the projects created are environmentally ethical (ie. long-lasting toys, made from recycled/repurposed materials that can be broken down to be recycled or re-used).
When COVID-19 hit, they again got creative by working out a way to deliver this fun, educational and creative activity to children and families, all ten months, in the form of take away kits distributed Saturdays outdoors in front of the Okanagan Regional Library, Revelstoke, a partner. No small feat when you realize that the concept, supplies and instructions must be developed and packaged for the ever changing projects…biweekly.
As the program grew they (Jacqueline Ie and Francis Madden) reached out for funding to help continue to offer this worthy project. The RCF is proud to be one of their sponsors. We have been able to offer RCF Community funds and ECSF (Emergency from the Government of Canada & Vancouver Foundation funds this past year.
