Revelstoke Search and Rescue (RevSAR): Swiftwater Rescue Training

Revelstoke is defined not only by its mountains and rivers, but also by the dedicated volunteers who step forward in emergencies.

In 2025, the Revelstoke Community Foundation was proud to support Revelstoke Search and Rescue (RevSAR) through funding for advanced Swiftwater Rescue Training – an investment in both safety and community preparedness.

This specialized training project strengthened RevSAR’s ability to respond safely and effectively to complex and high-risk swiftwater rescue incidents. Four team members received advanced technical instruction, including critical swiftwater vehicle in-water and entrapment training, designed to prepare responders for some of the most dangerous rescue scenarios in fast-moving water environments.

Rivers in and around Revelstoke can pose significant hazards, particularly during seasonal melt and high-flow periods. Swiftwater incidents require highly specialized skills, rapid decision-making, and precise teamwork. Through this training, RevSAR members enhanced their ability to operate in challenging terrain and unpredictable conditions, improving both responder safety and outcomes for individuals in need of assistance.

As a result of this training investment, team members returned with increased confidence, strengthened technical skills, and improved readiness to respond to emergencies. This directly enhances the overall capacity of the search and rescue team to serve the community and the surrounding region.

The impact of this project extends beyond individual skill development – it strengthens the resilience of the entire emergency response system in Revelstoke. When seconds matter, well-trained responders can make the difference in saving lives and reducing risk in dangerous environments.

The Revelstoke Community Foundation is honoured to support the ongoing development of Revelstoke Search and Rescue volunteers who dedicate their time, expertise, and energy to keeping our community safe. Their commitment reflects the very best of Revelstoke: preparedness, courage, and care for one another.

Science World – On the Road (Revelstoke)

Science World On the Road Inspires Young Minds in Revelstoke

In May 2025, classrooms across Revelstoke lit up with curiosity, laughter, and awe as Science World On the Road returned to our community. This engaging program brought interactive science presentations directly into local schools, sparking wonder and excitement among students of all ages.

Thanks to support from the Revelstoke Community Foundation’s Cummings-Knihnicki Fund, the visit was made possible. The fund helped cover the coordination, facilitation, and delivery of the program, ensuring that every child had the opportunity to experience hands-on learning and discover the fascinating world of science.

From explosive demonstrations to thought-provoking experiments, the Science World team created unforgettable moments that encouraged students to ask questions, explore new ideas, and see science in action. For many, this visit was not just an entertaining experience but also an inspiration to keep learning and dreaming big.

At the Revelstoke Community Foundation, we are proud to help bring opportunities like this to our schools. By investing in educational programming, we’re helping to spark curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning in the next generation.

A heartfelt thank you to the Cummings-Knihnicki Fund for making this possible, and to Science World On the Road for sharing the magic of science with Revelstoke students.
